The Story of The Turtle Peak Valley

Siobhan Wang

There was no road to the valley and one had to traverse mountains to get in and the first time, Siobhan and her younger brother Bill entered the valley, they stumbled a lot. Finally, when they came into the beautiful valley it was like a paradise.

In June 2019, Bill, during a walk, pointed out the place where 24 years ago they had climbed down the high and steep mountain and we could imagine the two pioneers trekking. Bill showed us two places on the mountain road that were only enabled by opening the way with explosives for there was no road before they arrived. Siobhan and Bill needed great courage and determination for they loved the beautiful environment of the valley and used their own hands to open the way. Consequently, every tree, stone and inch of land to Siobhan and Bill are like treasures. As one walks along the winding road, one can deeply appreciate every drop of their painstaking efforts and deep love for the valley.

1997, Beijing, China. A soldier’s widow was called Siobhan. Siobhan’s husband tragically sacrificed his life in a national nuclear experiment. To deal with her grief, Siobhan hoped to find a sparsely populated place to live for the rest of her life and due to her late husband's status as a national hero, she, with the help of the government found a beautiful valley in the northern suburbs of Beijing. Siobhan took one look at the valley and decided that she was ready to settle down in this idyllic place. Accordingly, she signed a contract with the government for 50 years. In order to realize her wish, Siobhan’s younger brother Bill spent his life’s savings and she also borrowed from friends and relatives. By helping to purchase the valley for his sister Siobhan, Bill along with the rest of their 4 family siblings, started to build the valley here.

Siobhan often says that the mountains are spiritual and because of their spiritual protection, when working for many years nothing could not hurt her. Over the years, many real estate development groups have approached her hoping to exchange significant amounts of money for this beautiful and original ecological valley that has not been developed. Siobhan has always refused their offers for she believes that she lives here healthily and that a healthy body is more important than anything else. The Bible states, “What good is it to earn the whole world and lose your life? ”Today, looking at Siobhan’s pure white and red skin which makes a 77-year-old appear only 60 years old. Siobhan's wisdom is not shared by many people in the city or even in the world.

Many years have passed and Siobhan has used her strong will, pure heart and hard-working hands to protect the original ecological land. Here in the valley, water is natural, minerals are affluent, air is natural from the forest generated oxygen, food is self grown with no fertilisers or pesticides, there are many varieties of fruits on the trees, apples, pears, walnuts, apricots, hawthorns which each year generate abundant harvests which can not be consumed every meal, Siobhan herself pulls out the vegetables from the ground and they are washed and dipped in sauce to eat which makes ones whole body feel healthy. Such natural foods are detoxifying and many people come for a few days in order to feel energetic and several years younger.

In the whole of Beijing this is the last unspoiled pure natural land. After visiting, we named the place the ‘Oriental Garden of Eden’. Because everything here is full of energy akin to Genesis when God was just at the beginning of creation where all was lively and vibrant. Among the guests are politicians, entrepreneurs, calligraphers, painters, journalists, actors, actresses, and many others.
